Meredith Music Festival

The twelfth annual Meredith, held December 13 to 15, 2002, was the first at the new Supernatural Amphitheatre after the Crown ended festivals at the old Cargerie site. With barely six months to build it, volunteers turned up from all over the country to dig, clear, plant, fence and path the new ground, living on site in caravans and tents through every kind of weather. It was an astounding success. The Meredith Eye ferris wheel arrived for the first time and was full the whole weekend. This was also the first year Meredith opened on the Friday night. Around 3000 early-entry campers took in fine performances from Hoss, The Sailors, Dallas Crane, The Fauves, legendary US outfit Dead Moon and Snout's very last show. The main weekend brought Bob Mould, Sleater-Kinney, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Lisa Miller, a wonderful ninety minutes of live groove from Resin Dogs, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs on their first Australian tour, plus Jebediah, Paul Dempsey, 1200 Techniques, The D4, TZU, The Drones and Darren Hanlon. Sunday closed out with Master Jin Song's Tai Chi, the all-nude Meredith Gift and special guest MC Anthony Menchetti. Setline has the full playing times for all three days.
