Meredith Music Festival
The twenty second Meredith, held December 7 to 9, 2012, at the Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre. It was warm on the Friday and even hotter on the Saturday, with winds hitting 60km/h and plenty of tents flattened by midday before the evening cooled and the wind fell away. Three days on the one stage took in Primal Scream, Spiritualized, Four Tet, Tame Impala touring Lonerism, Turbonegro, Grimes and the reformed Sunnyboys, who chose Meredith for their first show in twenty two years. One of the biggest audiences of the weekend gathered for Grimes, while Omar Souleyman played mere hours after learning his hometown of Ras al-Ayn had been bombed. Saturday belonged to eighty five year old saxophonist Big Jay McNeely, who started his set blowing hard somewhere up the hill before making his way down to the front of the stage leading the crowd through Ray Charles I Cant Stop Loving You. Otologic ushered in a joyful dawn on the Sunday, and JB Smoove flew in as special guest MC to commentate The Meredith Gift. The bill also featured Pond, Brous, Chet Faker, Royal Headache, Twerps, Snakadaktal, Earthless, Hot Snakes, Rahzel and DJ JS-1, Saskwatch, Regurgitator, DJ Yamantaka Eye of The Boredoms, Hiatus Kaiyote, Boomgates and The Murlocs, with the Silence Wedge, the Meredith Gift, Master Song Tai Chi and the Meredith Sky Show keeping the weekend's traditions alive.
