Meredith Music Festival
The 24th Meredith, held December 12 to 14, 2014, at the Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre. It was a bit hot, particularly on the Saturday, but excellent weather all the same. It was also the first Meredith that founder Chris Nolan had missed since 1996, and a big get well soon card went up against the Nolan stand for people to leave messages of support. This was a period of near peak New Zealand, with Tiny Ruins, Jen Cloher and Marlon Williams all leaving their stamp on the Sup. The War on Drugs rode a wave of euphoria on the Friday night, Jagwar Ma played and slayed, and Sleep turned the heat up a notch with an almighty rendition of Dopesmoker. Saturday afternoon delivered the now legendary Ghostface Killah set, when Dylan Alcott crowd surfed his way to the stage and, alongside a young fella from Geelong, nailed the verses to Protect Ya Neck. The back to back joy of The Skatalites into De La Soul defined the Saturday night. Other highlights took in Mark Lanegan, Ty Segall, Phosphorescent, The Lemonheads featuring Courtney Barnett, Blank Realm, The Bombay Royale and Cloud Nothings, with the Silence Wedge, Master Song Tai Chi and the Meredith Gift keeping the weekend's traditions alive.
