About the festival

2019. The last one before recess. The water animal curse broken, year of the platypus, which for some reason seems to be the most appropriate of all the animals. Mild, if a little cold. No rain, the skies often grey. No bushfires or floods to contend with. Which was nice. It was the first Meredith to feature a smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country performed by traditional custodians the Wadawurrung, who have been calling these parts home for around 5,000 generations. The music kicked off with a kick-arse set from Jesswar, before Julia Jacklin crushed us with the most spellbinding of displays and Briggs cooked The Sup to perfection. Liam Gallagher was still mad for it, DJ Koze turned the stage into a terrarium, and Amyl and the Sniffers went from festival openers two years earlier to a full late-night blast. Cate Le Bon was Cate Le Bon, i.e. incredible. Helena Hauff, Roisin Murphy, Viagra Boys, Dead Prez and The Egyptian Lover all took their turn under the eagles circling high above.
