Meredith Music Festival
2022. The 30th Meredith, and the first return to the Supernatural Amphitheatre after two years of pandemic down time. It had been eight hundred and ninety-two days since the sun last set on The Sup, and twelve days out it looked like the wet ground might stop it going ahead altogether. The site dried out just in time. When the countdown clock wound down, we were welcomed back to Wadawurrung country by Barry and Tammy Gilson, along with the debut performance from Barry's band Meninyan. Courtney Barnett made her third appearance in The Sup with a greatest hits set full of sing alongs, before the Friday night went supersonic through Yothu Yindi, The Comet Is Coming, Shouse and their all-in choir, and BIG WETT. Saturday brought CLAMM, Our Carlson, Nu Genea, Dry Cleaning and Tkay Maidza, a spellbound crowd passing around lyric sheets for Sharon Van Etten, and a Private Function set that produced the weekend's biggest surprise when Kylie Minogue's sister Dannii, then Kylie herself, arrived to belt out Jackie. Dan Snaith doubled up as Caribou and Daphni, Derrick Carter and Darcy Justice held the late night, and Smooch closed out the Sunday. The Silence Wedge, Master Song Tai Chi and the Meredith Gift kept the weekend's traditions alive.
