About Deep Purple
Deep Purple are a British rock band formed in Hertford in 1968, widely considered pioneers of hard rock and heavy metal. Known for their thunderous organ-driven sound, virtuosic guitar work from Ritchie Blackmore, and Ian Gillan's powerful vocals, they helped define the heavy rock genre. Their 1972 album "Machine Head" features the iconic riff-based classic "Smoke on the Water."
