Pixies are a Boston-formed alternative rock band whose loud-quiet-loud dynamic, surf-tinged guitars, and Black Francis's abrasive vocals proved massively influential on 1990s rock. Their late-1980s albums, including Surfer Rosa and Doolittle, blend punk aggression with melodic pop sensibility.
