Venom is a pioneering British extreme metal band formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1979. Their raw, aggressive sound and satanic imagery on albums like *Welcome to Hell* (1981) and *Black Metal* (1982) laid the groundwork for black metal, thrash metal, and death metal as distinct genres.
