Megadeth is an American heavy metal band founded in 1983 by guitarist and vocalist Dave Mustaine following his dismissal from Metallica. Known for their aggressive thrash metal sound, intricate guitar work, and politically charged lyrics, they are widely regarded as one of the "Big Four" of thrash metal alongside Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax.
